Stevenage Welfare Benefits Appeals project

Hertfordshire Law School is working in collaboration with Citizens Advice Stevenage to provide a new online service to people wishing to appeal the refusal of welfare benefits. Since cuts to legal aid, there is a huge amount of unmet need for this kind of work and this project will enable Citizens Advice Stevenage to expand their existing service and help many more people who would otherwise struggle to get access to justice.

Ten law students went through a rigorous selection process over summer and have just completed intensive training with Citizens Advice. The students are due to start seeing clients this week (week beginning 7 December 2020) to help prepare cases for appeal. Students may even have the opportunity to represent clients at the first tier tribunal.
