Arriving at University
Your first few weeks at the University are all about finding your feet, getting to know who's who and sampling the delights of student nightlife for the very first time.
Settling in
First thing's first – the practical stuff. Our first tip is to keep an eye on your local notice boards. This is where you'll find out about weekend events, halls society events and kitchen meetings. Don't forget to follow @UHStudentLife on Twitter too.
Kitchen meetings
These are a good opportunity to meet your Resident Assistants (RAs), who know everything there is to know about living in halls.
Registration
Visit the registration page to find out details of where and when you register. You will need your applicant number, which can be found on your offer letter.
Money
There are four cash points on the College Lane Campus – all in the Forum. There's a cash point on the de Havilland Campus, just outside the LRC.
Food
You're spoilt for choice for eating on campus. There are two main restaurants, one in the Forum on College Lane and the other on de Havilland. Both open for breakfast at 08.00 and serve lunch until 17.00.
You'll find a wide choice of cafes including Starbucks and Costa. The Forum restaurant is also open from 19.00 from Monday to Thursday. Don't forget to pick up a Loyalty+ card – available from all outlets for free – to start earning points and picking up freebies.
Getting online
There are three ways to connect to the internet and University online services:
- Login to a University computer in the Learning Resources Centre (LRC) with your University username and password.
- Connect wirelessly via UHWifi or the eduroam service (see StudyNet).
- Plug into a University datapoint using a network cable, open your web browser to get the login screen, select 'student' and enter your University username and password.
Getting out
Now's a great time to get familiar with your Students' Union.
They offer a huge range of activities and events throughout the year and are also responsible for our world-class entertainments venue, The Forum.
