DLHE Survey

What is the survey about?

The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey is a national survey of everyone who has recently qualified from any university or HE college in the UK. It is a snapshot taken approximately 6 months after leaving.

You will be asked for information about the type of degree you studied, whether you are currently employed, the type of role and the salary you are paid. The information you provide will help us to advise our current students about the opportunities available to them once they graduate.

How do I complete the survey?

You will receive an email inviting you to complete an online questionnaire. You may also receive a questionnaire through the post or a phone call. If we don't receive a completed questionnaire from you we will try to contact you again.

If you were a UK or EU student, we will contact you either by email or by phone. If you were a non-EU student, we will only contact you by email.

The survey will only take a few minutes and your information is really important to us. We need to get a certain number of responses to ensure our data is as meaningful as possible. This means we may contact you a number of times if you do not initially reply.

You can telephone us during office hours on 01707 284791 to complete the survey at a time convenient to you. We can call you back to complete the survey.

If we can't get in touch with you we may try to get information about you from a third party; either at the University or someone from the contact information you have previously provided.

However we prefer to receive the information from you so that we know it is accurate.

What happens to my information?

The information gained about the destinations of our graduates is vitally important to the University of Hertfordshire and is used in a number of ways. Your personal data will be used to update our student records and we may contact you to tell you about new services you may be interested in or ways you can help support our current work.

If you do not want us to use your information please let us know by contacting Careers and Placements Service via email at careers@herts.ac.uk or telephone: 01707 284791.

The University of Hertfordshire may also use the information provided to:

• inform current and prospective students about the types of roles graduates have achieved and the companies they are working for
• identify the sectors graduates work in and ensure those employers’ needs are built into course content and the students’ experience at our University
• help us understand how we can best support current and future students during their time at University of Hertfordshire.

Please note that all information is used anonymously and aggregated to ensure that no one individual can be identified. The University of Hertfordshire will not pass your information to any outside organisations or third parties apart from the coded information we send to HESA.

Follow-up survey

A follow-up survey is planned for three years’ time so we can get more information about the early careers of our former students. You might be asked to take part in this follow-up survey which will be carried out by a different organisation on behalf of the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

If you don’t want to take part you can opt out of the follow-up survey when you complete the current survey.

You can also contact us at any time to tell us you don't wish to take part. If a third party has completed the survey on your behalf you will automatically be opted out of the follow-up survey.

What if I don't wish to take part in the survey?

If you don't wish to take part in the survey simply let us know by any of the following methods:

• Reply to the email you have been sent saying you do not wish to take part
• Tell the person who has called you that you do not wish to take part

• Telephone: 01707 284791.

Remember that you will need to give us your name and student number for us to identify you and remove you from our survey list.
