About the courseMental Health  

Launching November 2013, a great opportunity to gain a post graduate certificate in Mental Health Recovery and Social Inclusion. Students will then have the opportunity to continue their studies and gain the full Master's award.

This is an innovative e-learning programme developed through partnerships between experts by experienced practitioners and academics in the areas of mental health, social inclusion, leadership and recovery. The partners are:

  • University of Hertfordshire (UK)
  • New University Lisbon (Portugal)
  • The University of Torino (Italy)
  • The Maria Grzegorzewsaka Academy of Special Education (Poland)
  • Azienda Sanitaria Locale ASL AT, Asti (Italy) 
  • Experts by experience
  • National Advisory Groups
  • Professor Larry Davidson, Yale University, USA.

This two year part-time course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in to the recovery and social inclusion of people experiencing mental distress.

Studying 100% online means you can study when and wherever you want anywhere around the globe. There are no attendance requirements, although you will be offered at least two individual online tutorials and two group tutorials, as well as regular contact with tutors.

For the November launch, the study path will be:

Core modules:

  • Innovation in Recovery and Social Inclusion Theory and Practice (30 credits) – November 2013

Plus, one of the following modules in February 2014

  • Recovery and Social Inclusion Research (30 credits)
  • Leadership and Organisational Change (30 credits)
  • Recovery and Social Inclusion Policy and Legislation (30 credits)

Please note: Students will be allocated to one of the above modules which they will study in February. However, if you decide to study the full programme, you will study the remaining two modules, along with the specialist project.

  • European funding given for the year 2013/14 allows 60 eligible students to take the first two modules of the Master's for free.
  • Prospective students must be European students, living in the EU.

Entry requirements

A good first degree or equivalent, as well as having involvement in mental health services delivery.

You will also need to demonstrate in the statement in the application form that that you have involvement in mental health services as a service user, carer, and professional or have policy/management responsibilities. In addition you will need to set out why you believe the Master's will benefit you and your work.

English language requirements

All students from non-majority English speaking countries require proof of English language proficiency. The following qualifications and grades will be considered:

  • GCSE English language grade A-C.
  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in any band).

Other English language tests are accepted. Please contact the International Office for details.

  • Innovation in Recovery and Social Inclusion Theory and Practice (30 credits)
  • Recovery and Social Inclusion Research (30 credits)
  • Leadership and Organisational Change (30 credits)
  • Recovery and Social Inclusion Policy and Legislation (30 credits)
  • Specialist Project (60 credits)

Assessment

  • Coursework – there will be a fixed date for assignment submission.
  • Online tests – a fixed a 24-hour time slot is normally assigned for each online test to be taken.

Submission  

Students who successfully meet the entry requirements will be given a place subject to availability. Those who are not initially offered places will be placed on a reserve list so they can be considered in the autumn if more places become available.
