Your qualification and graduation

What is the status of an online degree?

Our online courses have the same high academic standard as our on-campus qualifications. You will have obtained a fully accredited, university degree. We are an online university, as well as a traditional one. How you choose to study does not affect the validity of your qualification.

Our online courses have the same entry requirements, content and substantially the same learning outcomes as our on-campus programmes.

They follow the same rigorous academic quality assurance procedures for development, approval, delivery and assessment. This ensures and protects the value of the award you will gain.

What will appear on my degree certificate?

The name of your degree will appear on the certificate, e.g. Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science.

Modules may contain the word "Online" in their title, but the degree title on the certificate does not. You will also receive a transcript showing the modules you have passed, and your grades.

What is a transcript?

A transcript is an official document that will show your award, your award classification and all the modules you have passed along with the grades for each module.

Where and when will the graduation ceremony be held?

The BSc or BA certificates will be presented at the main awards ceremony held at by The University of Hertfordshire, normally at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans, UK. The ceremony is held annually, usually in November.

The MSc or MA certificates will be presented in the de Havilland Auditorium in March.

What entry qualifications do I need?

Visit the courses page to see the entry requirements required for each course.

What if I do not have the formal entry qualifications?

We welcome applications from candidates who have equivalent qualifications or professional experience. If you feel that this applies to you, we suggest that you apply in the normal way and provide detailed evidence of your relevant (professional) experience in a portfolio attached to the form.

We are not able to make informal judgements about equivalent qualifications and experience, e.g. via email. Instead we require a formal application so we have enough information to consider each case fully.
