Design for sustainability
The research group has an active programme of Doctoral study in the field of design for sustainability.
Current projects include:
Title: Design of a small frontal area vehicle -MSc by Research Student AA
The overall aim is to design and develop a suitable type of body structure for a city concept vehicle that will reduce parking and traffic requirements
Title: Advanced Phase Power-train Design Attribute and Technology Value Mapping -PhD - Student AG
The main aim of this research investigation is to develop a new methodology “system” that will create a substantially optimised product offering to the market, reducing overall cost spend for the company while achieving customer satisfaction and a competitive gain.
Title: Design and optimisation of a bi-metal blade for a thermal motor –PhD-Student GDA
The aim of this research is to optimise for maximum power, a bi-metallic blade within a “low technology” thermal motor, which is powered by renewable and sustainable heat energies.
Title The adoption of TQM into deferent size SME’s and how it influences their financial performance PhD – Student GS
The aim is to examine whether and to what extend The Greek ISO 9000 certified companies are continuing their quality journeys after registration towards Total Quality Management system and to identify the relationship between TQM and financial performance
Title: Investigation into the operational characteristics of compound material strips -MPhil – Student IC
The aim is to investigate the mechanical behaviour of compound strip under different heating and cooling cycles
Title: Investigation of pulse tuning the exhaust manifold on a turbocharged engine and its effects on engine output MSc by Research Student JE
The aim is to achieve maximum engine output whilst maintaining a safe constrain/longevity of the exhaust manifold/cylinder temperatures
Title: A Knowledge Intensive Rapid Product Development System utilising corporate memory and customers choices Student NK
Increasing worldwide competition emphasises the Product Development Process (PDP) need for rapid and higher performance gains. This imposes an intense corporate memory utilisation with efficient and effective communication throughout the whole PDP stages.
Title: “Knowledge Management with support of an Automated Design Process by the use of parametric associative CAD-software” Student SL
The aim is to develop the most efficient method in designing concurrently similar body in white structures in less time but of higher quality. A new process and the necessary boundary conditions will be developed using as a test bed the development process of side doors of the BMW Group.
Title: Business Model Innovation through Knowledge Transfer for sustainable operational improvement –PhD – Student SM
The aim is to study and determine possible links with strategy and measures of success that deliver measurable value in a Knowledge transfer environment
Title: Investigation, analysis and optimization of PV technologies as applied in Greece PhD -Student CP
The aim of this Research is to make an in depth analysis, comparison and optimisation of different photovoltaic technologies with regards to PVS (mono-crystalline, polycrystalline etc) as applied in the Greek Region.
