C-C composites are currently being used in aerospace applications due to their high strength and low density. They can retain high strength at temperatures up to 2000°C and can be potentially used in hypersonic aircraft and in various defence applications. However, they have poor oxidation resistance and need to be protected. The aim of the project is develop an oxidation protection system by reaction of silicon with C-C composites.
