The Centre for Engineering Research carries out research across the engineering disciplines.

Our research groups have world-leading and internationally-recognised research, with our staff collaborating with European and global partners and working alongside industry to deliver innovative solutions to their problems.
Our research includes microfluidics and microengineering, sustainable energy technologies, materials and structures, radio and mobile communications, optical networks, digital media processing and biometrics, and aerospace engineering. Our engineering facilities include over 4000m2 of laboratory and simulation equipment and we have been investing heavily in state-of-the-art instrumentation, equipment and test facilities.
Over recent years engineering research has been sponsored and funded by EPSRC, EU FP7, Home Office, DSTL, BAE Systems, BBSRC, DTI, EEDA, GigaSat, TTi, CSC (China), MBDA, Fulcrum Voice Technologies, CitySync, Altrium, BT Labs and Altera.
Research Groups in the Centre for Engineering Research are occasionally able to offer self-funded short term internships of up to 12 weeks, depending on the applicants experience. If you are interested in this scheme then please complete the application form and email this to the main contact in one of the research groups listed below.
