Overview
The Statistical Services and Consultancy Unit (SSCU) provides statistical consultancy and research work in a wide range of applications.

Lead by Head of Unit Dr Neil H Spencer, it also has a suite of short courses in statistics which are open to the general public and provides bespoke training courses to organisations.
Aims of the unit
The unit aims:
- to carry out statistical research and consultancy for businesses and public sector organisations operating in a variety of sectors.
- to carry out statistical research (in a collaborative capacity) and consultancy for other centres/units/departments of the University of Hertfordshire.
- to offer statistical training via short courses to organisations and individuals from businesses and public sector organisations operating in a variety of sectors.

Indicative research and consultancy projects
Indicative research and consultancy projects, that the unit has been involved in include:
- giving advice on the analysis of cerebral palsy data for the Advance Institute for The Scotson Technique.
- the analysis of data collected from the National Lottery ball-drawing machines to check for randomness(Camelot plc).
- the Development of questionnaires, data entry and data analysis for the Eastwick & Gilston Parish Plan Steering Group.
- data management and analysis to create the National Lottery Index for the National Lottery Promotions Unit.
- data auditing and analysis for Weight Wins, a company that operates an innovative weight loss programme where slimmers can earn money for losing weight.
- providing advice for online questionnaires and data analysis of music download behaviour of 14-24 year olds (in collaboration with the CIRCU and School of Film, Music and New Media).
- the data analysis of educational data for the University of Hertfordshire Student Performance and Monitoring Group.
