Learning in Business Research Unit (LIBRU)

Overview

The Learning in Business Research Unit (LIBRU) provides support to staff working on research and consultancy projects related to scholarship of teaching and learning.

Launched in January 2011, members of the unit have worked on more than fifteen internally and externally funded learning and teaching projects and have developed expertise in the areas of:

  • collaborative learning with wikis
  • teaching statistics
  • team-teaching
  • work-based learning

Aims of the unit

The aim of the unit is to strengthen research-informed basis for improvements in learning and teaching practice and to further develop scholarly activities and pedagogical culture within the Hertfordshire Business School

Research themes

The unit's research themes include: scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL), collaborative learning, teaching statistics, e-learning, team teaching, work-based learning, experiential learning, distance learning, research-informed teaching, students' expectations, development and engagement, action research, staff engagement, multicultural groups.

Previously awarded Research and Consultancy Projects include:

  • JISC-funded project on Evaluating Electronic Voting Systems for Enhancing Student Experience (EEVS)
  • HEA BMAF funded projects on wiki-based collaborative learning
  • HEA BMAF-funded project on collaborative action learning
  • University of Hertfordshire Charitable Trust-funded project on the University's Distance Learning Programmes
  • A number of internal (LTI)  small scale innovation grants and enhancement awards
  • Consultancy work on using wikis for collaborative learning
