Research training course
The University of Hertfordshire is a centre of excellence for advanced study into the fundamental nature of research in the creative and performing arts.
Centre of excellence
The School of Creative Arts currently hosts a major project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council with an international team of about 10 researchers, in which there are conferences and events, and frequent publications of ideas and outcomes in scholarly journals and books.
We have a wealth of knowledge and resources to make available to our students to support their research and the development of their research careers in the arts.
The School used the expertise and latest research from the group to design a new research training course, which will be beneficial for both PhD students and Masters students interested in developing a research career.
Aims of the course
This three-part research training course is designed to complement the existing Research postgraduate degrees.
A combination of generic and discipline specific lectures and panel discussions will be developed by the research group, which will give participants a critical view of research methods and insight into the current state of debate on the subject.
This will include:
- the contextualisation of regulatory requirements
- providing advice on best working practices
- helping participants to situate their own work within the wider research context
As a result of attending the series it is expected that participants will develop:
- a reflective understanding of the research process in creative and performing arts
- a supportive, productive and informative network of researchers across academic communities
- the ability to locate your work both critically and creatively within different traditions and forms of enquiry
The content of the course is delivered during one academic year, broken down into three half day sessions.
