Conference 2002

Research into Practice 2002 explored the fundamental concept of knowledge in art and design.

Conference report

Friday 5 July 2002

If research is the advancement of knowledge, and if PhDs are awarded for an original contribution to knowledge and/or its interpretation, what do we mean by knowledge in art and design?

What characteristics must it have so that it can make a contribution to the discipline that is accepted by academics and practitioners?

If we reject Positivist notions of objective knowledge or tacit implications of truth, with what do we replace them?
