New Play On Witchcraft
A new play focusing on witchcraft will be making its stage debut later this year.
Professor Owen Davies is helping to develop the new work, working with esteemed theatre director Max Stafford-Clark, Artistic Director of Out of Joint Theatre, and playwright Rebecca Lenkiewicz who has written for stage and screen, including Her Naked Skin about the Suffragette movement.
The stimulus for the play and project is the 300th anniversary of the last conviction for witchcraft in England.
In March 1712 Jane Wenham of Walkern, Hertfordshire, was sentenced to hang but was subsequently pardoned by Queen Anne.
She lived out the rest of her life in the care of local gentry.
The play is scheduled to be performed later in the year.
