Research activity at each quality level:

  • 25 per cent – World-leading (4*)
  • 45 per cent – Internationally excellent (3*)
  • 30 per cent – Internationally recognised (2*)
  • 0 per cent – Nationally recognised (1*)

An excellent outcome

The History research submitted by the University of Hertfordshire was judged to be:

  • 100 per cent – of international quality
  • 70 per cent – world-leading or internationally excellent quality
  • 30 per cent – internationally recognised

The History group is delighted by its success in RAE 2008 which sees it ranked 7th equal out of 83 submissions, alongside the universities of Cambridge, UCL, Birkbeck and Southampton.

It is one of only two History departments in the UK in which 100 per cent of research activity has been rated as being world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.
