Strategic areas of research excellence have been created in the fields of:
- Topical Drug Delivery and Toxicology
- Patient Safety and Medicines Management
- Clinical Psychopharmacology/Substance Misuse
- Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Cardiovascular Pharmacology
- Biocomputation
- Neuropharmacology
Our research is underpinned by the creation of the Centre for Research into Topical Drug Delivery and Toxicology and the Centre for Clinical Practice, Safe Medicines and Drug Misuse Research together with research hubs in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology.

Pharmacology
Research in Pharmacology utilises an integrated physiological and pharmacological approaches with biochemical and molecular techniques to study disease states and underlying mechanisms of drug actions with a view to identifying novel therapeutic targets and agents.
Current projects are in the disciplines of:
- Cardiovascular pathologies
- Diabetic neuropathies
- TRP ion channels
- Biochemistry and Bioinformatics
- Neurodegenerative diseases
The Pharmacology group also has strong collaborative links with Pharmacy in areas of drug formulation and delivery.

Research facilities
Research supported by state-of-the-art research laboratories, including: simulation suite (also for cell culture/stem cell research), Nano-pharmaceutics plus toxicological/dermatological evaluation of drugs, NMR, analytical, topical formulation/absorption

Major achievements
Over the last few years we have enjoyed some significant achievements within pharmacy and pharmacology
