Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work

Overview

Our research strategy is outlined here.

Hands holding paper cut outs

Research in Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work is of an internationally-recognised calibre at the University of Hertfordshire, having gained a position in the top six universities in the 2008 RAE

We work with multiple national and international academic partners, the NHS, Social Care, public and voluntary sector, EU partners and other international collaborators.

Research in Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work benefits from a strategically developed Research Centre in Primary and Community Care (CRIPACC) as well as research groups in related fields of social work and mental health.

Our work has made a significant impact on policy and practice in areas such as self-management of long-term conditions, end of life care of older people, health risk behaviours of children and young people, parenting, domestic violence, mental health recovery and falls prevention.

We are currently opening up a new field of work around developing Communities of Practice for health and social care practitioners. Patient and public involvement is a core strategy across all programme areas.

The Public Involvement in Research Group (PIRG) has 15+ members from across PCTs, schools, and voluntary sector lay members, and works closely with INVOLVE to ensure that user contribution is core to all nursing and social care research.
