Statistics and methods
Background
Statistics and mathematical modelling are integral aspects of the health-related research. We have developed expertise in a number of areas of health related statistics including the development of new methods of medical statistics.
Our members and collaborators are actively involved in providing expertise and applying statistical methods in the following areas:
Statistical methods in medical imaging
The CT and MRI techniques as a source of cancer biomarkers; prognostic modelling (also in Cardiology)
CLiCIR: Dr David Wellsted, Robert Kozarski
Collaborators: Prof Vicky Goh - Analysis of the BOLD fMRI data, using the Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) software CliCIR: Dr John Done, Burak Erdeniz Collaborator: Jane Garrison
Longitudinal data analysis and psychometrics
Latent curve modelling and growth mixture models in application to research on rheumatoid arthritis
Factor analysis, item response theory, latent class analysis
CliCIR: Dr David Wellsted, Lewis Carpenter
Collaborators: Prof Adam Young, Dr Sam Norton, Prof Amanda Sacker, Dr Neil Spencer, Dr Eren Demir, Dr Joerg Schultz
Physical function and physical activity
Methods in time and frequency domain for the analysis and patterning of accelerometer-based physical activity data. Large data sets, high-frequency time series.
CliCIR: Dr Kirsten Rennie, Robert Kozarski
Meta-analysis
Effect size for drug treatments (STATA)
Diagnostic accuracy - Ginger ALE software for pooling fMRI studies
CliCIR: Dr John Done, Dr David Wellsted, Lewis Carpenter
