The BWS holds a biannual Ludwig Wittgenstein Lecture Series (LWLS): one in the autumn; the other in the spring. Lectures are free of charge, and followed by a wine and cheese reception.

Third Inaugural lecture of the BWS Ludwig Wittgenstein Lecture Series
Speaker: Professor Rom Harré
Venue and Time: de Havilland Campus, Room TBA at 17.00
Title: '"Are there moral hinges?"'.
Professor Harré was for many years the University Lecturer in Philosophy of Science at Oxford and Fellow of Linacre College. He is at present Distinguished Professor in the Psychology Department of Georgetown University (Washington DC) and Director of the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science at the London School of Economics.
Rom Harré began his career in mathematics and physics, turning later to the foundations of psychology. His research has been directed to the use of models and other kinds of non-formal reasoning in the sciences, as well as a long series of studies on the role of causal powers and agency concepts in both natural and human sciences.
Distinguished philosopher and psychologist, Prof. Harré has written on a wide variety of subjects including: philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science, philosophy of psychology, epistemology, ontology, sociology, anthropology, psychology.
A wine and cheese reception will follow.
