Agriculture and Environment Research

One of the most pressing issues facing agriculture and food production is how to best protect the environment and adapt to climate change while remaining commercially competitive.

Our Agriculture and Environment Research Unit (AERU) applies sound science to help farmers and growers improve their performance and successfully meet such challenges.

Our research interests in this area began in 1994 with the development of a software package called Environmental Management for Agriculture (EMA).

Building on this early experience, we have grown to become one of the UK's most important providers of agri-environment information, advice and decision-support tools.

We work on diverse research and consultancy projects for central and local government, UK industry and the European Union; with the overarching aim of improving uptake of sustainable technologies and adoption of best practice in order to minimise environmental damage.
