CRIPACC Background

The Centre for Research in Primary and Community Care was established in 1996 following the Mant Report as part of the endeavour to build research capacity around Primary Care. The inclusion of community as well as primary care in the title has ensured that the research has embraced a wide range of issues that have an effect on primary health care, social care and service delivery and ultimately the patient, client or carer.

CRIPACC Location

CRIPACC is situated in the Health and Human Sciences Research Institute which complements its multidisciplinary research strategy and facilitates research with colleagues in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy, Post-Graduate Medical School and Clinical Trials Coordination Centre.CRIPACC currently employs 40 active researchers including 5 Professors and has in addition 5 support staff.

Funding Streams

The centre receives funding from the Department of Health, with the majority of its income coming from research grants, such as the EU, ESRC, NIHR, and NICE. The research is focused on the two main priority areas of Adolescent Child and Maternal Health and the Older People’s Health and Complex Conditions. Supporting streams of research comprising of: public health and health protection, evidence based practice, public involvement and patient experience, complement the main programme areas and ensure that the research is at the forefront of government policy issues. Research surrounding Maternal Health links CRIPACC strongly with the Nursing and Midwifery department.
