University is Among the Top in the World

The University of Hertfordshire is one of the top 100 universities in the world under 50 years old, according to the new Times Higher Education 100 under 50 rankings.Out of all the universities in the world founded after 1962, the University is ranked at number 62 above renowned institutions such as Loughborough in the UK and Curtin University in Australia. The rankings, compiled by the Times Higher Education magazine, a global authority on higher education are based on excellence across teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
In commenting on the University’s success, Professor Quintin McKellar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hertfordshire says: “We are approaching 20 years since we became a University, so we are particularly proud of this significant accolade, it clearly demonstrates how we have grown over the years into a successful, globally recognised institution.”
The University scored highly for the citing of its academic research on a global scale and for its international outlook and mix.
Professor McKellar adds: “Above all, we are honoured that our research has such a global impact which is testament to the support and dedication to academia from our staff, students and alumni.”
Out of the 20 universities in the UK that are mentioned in the rankings, Hertfordshire ranks in the top 12 making it the only new university in 19 years to have appeared in 3 world rankings*.
Phil Baty, editor, Times Higher Education Rankings, said: “The innovative Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 is not about the old institutions that dominate the traditional rankings: it is about a new breed of global universities – those that have managed to join the world’s top table in just decades rather than centuries, and others showing great promise for the future.
“The new ranking gives us a glimpse of the future, hinting at who the future Harvard and Cambridge universities may be.”
The 2012 Times Higher Education 100 under 50 is part of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings portfolio which is an annual ranking for universities across the globe. This year, universities in the UK ranked second in the world overall.
