University Students Help Local Pupils Level Up
Year 11 students from Hertfordshire have been given an exciting opportunity to work with Student Ambassadors from the University of Hertfordshire to boost their GCSE grades in Maths and English.

About the 'Level Up' programme
Fifty students from the schools Adeyfield, Francis Combe, Mount Grace and St. Mary’s have been participating in ‘Level Up’ sessions where they are given the opportunity to work with specialist students from related courses to help them get the essential grades required for university applications.
The sessions have been taking place on a weekly basis since mid-February and are designed to give school students the chance to seek from University of Hertfordshire students on topics they struggle with.
A positive experience for ambassadors and students
Lindsey Rigby, who organised the ‘Level Up’ scheme, said: “We are delighted with the success of ‘Level Up’ this year. The students have really benefited from the support they have been given by the university and our ambassadors have also found the sessions a positive experience. We look forward to seeing the students’ GCSE results in August.”
A taste of university
‘Level Up’ students were also given the opportunity to participate in a two-day Easter school at the University, which included intensive sessions with award-winning teachers and being treated to a meal at the Galleria.
The ‘Level Up’ programme is part of the outreach activities of the University of Hertfordshire’s Outreach and Widening Participation department.
