The Mason's first graduate
Student Jenny Polley graduated from the University of Hertfordshire this week following support from the Hertfordshire Mark Masons throughout her studies.
This is the first time that the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Masons in Hertfordshire have invested in students’ careers but Provincial Grand Master, Chris Radmore sees this as the way forward.
“We have supported Jenny and one other student through their three year degree course and have followed their progress with great interest. We have been so impressed with their success and the high quality of the teaching and administration at the University of Hertfordshire, that the brethren have raised the necessary funds to endow a Mark Masons scholarship at the University in perpetuity.”
Jenny Polley from Harpenden qualified as a nurse but had taken a break in service to bring up her children and accompany her husband abroad. On her return to the UK, she had difficulty finding suitable work and so volunteered at Grove house, a local hospice. After studying an initial module on the Palliative Care course at the University, she was fortunate to be offered sponsorship from the Mark Masons which enabled her to complete her BSc degree in Palliative Care.
Jenny says: “The graduation day is the realisation of a long-held dream of achieving a degree and I am so excited to be sharing my success with my family.”
Jenny is among the 4,300 new graduates who have celebrated academic success in St Albans this week. The annual Awards ceremony for the University of Hertfordshire took place at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban.
