The Big Draw 2009

The Big Draw spanned two days and was held at the de Havilland campus. The event encouraged everyone to draw and was linked to the National Campaign for Drawing.

The event was organised by the School of Education’s Art and Design tutors in conjunction with UH Arts and UH Galleries.

The first event held on Sunday 8th November featured a classical music concert performed by de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra with the Artist, James Mayhew, telling stories and painting pictures on stage while the music was playing. Families who attended the concert were invited to join in with drawing activities before the concert, and again afterwards, having been inspired by James’ imaginative artwork.

The second event on Monday 9th November encouraged students and passersby were invited to participate in painting and drawing activities inspired by live guitarist, David Delarre and visual artist Gavin Maughfling. Four parties of school children visited and enjoyed dancing, painting, and drawing and . . . some even dancing in the paint and making patterns with their feet!

The event gave many opportunities for people from different faculties to get together with a common focus. Many international students joined in to share the language we all have in common . . . art!
