Professors do something different at London Book Launch

Professor Ben Fletcher and Karen Pine launched their book FLEX: Do Something Different. How to use the other 9/10ths of your personality to an audience of over 100 guests at London’s famous Groucho Club on Monday 16th January.

In celebrating the book which encourages people to change behaviour as a way of lowering stress, guests at the event were invited to ‘do something different’ throughout the evening in order to experience some of the simple steps for changing behaviour. Guests took part in a variety of different activities including asking advice from complete strangers, taking photos of themselves in the ‘Doodio’ and visiting the ‘Do Station’, where they sent ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ postcards to old friends or loved ones.

Addressing the audience, Professor Ben Fletcher , who has recently retired after 30 years at the University of Hertfordshire said: “I am excited to bring out this book with the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Hertfordshire Press. It emphasises how we can expand the range of behaviours that we use, which is important for education and society. The approached will bring about a better world – that’s why we need FLEX.”

In the true spirit of ‘do something different’ a businessman leaving the event got into conversation with a Big Issue seller, gave him their copy of the book, exchanged phone numbers and vowed to keep in touch!

The book published by the University of Hertfordshire Press is available in paperback at £8.99 from UH press, bookshops or on Amazon .The Event also launched a new online business, www.dsd.me which aims to help one million people to do something different.
