Professor Geoffrey Hodgson will receive the '2012 Veblen-Commons Award' for his ‘contributions to institutional economics’ next January in Chicago.
The Veblen-Commons Award is the highest academic honour given by the Association of Evolutionary Economics. Awarded annually since 1969, it is given to a scholar who has substantially advanced an understanding of how economies actually work, in addition to insights that advance economic theory.
Previous recipients include Gunnar Myrdal (Nobel Laureate), John Kenneth Galbraith, Hyman Minsky, Richard Nelson, Geoffrey Harcourt and Jan Kregel. Professor Hodgson is the second European by birth (after Myrdal, who was Swedish) to receive the prize.
