Full-Time Legal Practice Course Approved by SRA

The School of Law is delighted to announce that the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) have approved the School’s plans for a full-time Legal Practice Course (LPC). This means that subject to the SRA confirming that conditions have been satisfactorily fulfilled, the School will be offering the full-time Programme from September 2010.

The Programme reflects the changes to the structure of the LPC required by the SRA and also builds upon the teaching and learning expertise within the School. The full-time (one year) Programme:

  • Requires attendance on campus for one day per week (normally a Wednesday).
  • Builds upon our excellent track record with distance and blended learning to provide students with maximum flexibility in managing their studies
  • 60% of the Programme will be delivered online, with the remaining 40% delivered face-to-face.
  • Provides students with eleven electives from which to choose so as to personalise their Stage 2 studies (three electives must be studied).
  • Offers Stage 2 electives covering the areas of Corporate Finance, Commercial Law, Personal Litigation and Dispute Resolution enabling students to either specialise within specific areas or to gain a broader training base.
  • Offers innovative electives in Intellectual Property and Information Technology, which reflect the evolving nature of legal practice. The Intellectual Property elective will support those students who wish to seek partial exemptions to the Patent and Trade Mark Attorney Examinations.
  • Includes the first elective in Mediation within the UK supporting students to become fully-accredited Mediators.
  • Provides students with the opportunity to continue their studies via the LLM in Legal Practice so as to obtain a Masters’ qualification reflecting their areas of study.
  • Includes within the fees all Programme Handbooks and required manuals as well as a Wireless-En  abled Laptop with built in Webcam.

More detailed information sessions are being held at the School later this year on Wednesday 28th April and Tuesday 15th June. Both sessions will commence at 6.00pm. The website will be updated shortly to provide more substantial details of the changes.
