DClinPsy students become hands on
DClinPsy students ran the first Research Student Conference in December. For the first time, University of Hertfordshire offered research students the opportunity to bid for funds to run a conference of their choice.

Academic Services Officer Kathy Lee says: “Feedback from research students highlighted that they would welcome opportunities to use the transferable skills they are learning, in a practical way. Running their own conference enabled research students to use their presentation, networking, team working, organisational and project management skills in practice. It was a fantastic learning experience for them.”
The students studying a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology submitted a written proposal setting out how they would go about running the conference. The ‘What a Difference a Difference Makes’ conference focuses on the issues of diversity in clinical psychology training. DClinPsy student and head of the conference committee Amani Zarroug said: “Organising and facilitating the conference helped in increasing my confidence, but more importantly it taught me there is no need for trainees to be passive recipients of the training they receive.”
