How to pay your fees

International students

To ensure that we are able to allocate your money to the correct account please make sure that you state your application number and personal information when making a payment to the University.

Failure to provide the necessary details can cause delays when processing your visa documentation.

You will be issued with a receipt when your payment has cleared into the University's account. This process may take up to 3 weeks from point of payment.

Ways to pay tuition and/or accommodation fees

Online using a debit or credit card

You need your student or application number to pay online.

Please note that a fee of 1.5% of the card payment will be charged for most transactions paid online by credit card and non-UK debit cards.

Bank transfer (Bank to Bank)

Payment of deposit may be by bank transfer direct to the University’s bank account. This is a safe and secure way of transferring money.

Remember to tell the bank that you wish to pay in pounds (GBP, £, sterling).

You must make sure that the bank transfer includes the following information:

  • Application number: Please refer to correspondence from the University, for direct applicants this should start with a 1, UCAS applicants please state your UCAS number
  • Applicant Name: FAMILY NAME (in capitals) and Given name
  • Applicant Date of Birth: Day-Month-Year
  • What the payment is for: ie tuition fee deposit OR accommodation deposit

Please note that you are expected to cover the costs of any charges incurred whilst making a payment to the University. Any funds outstanding due to bank charges will be payable during the registration process. 

By Banker’s Draft or Banker’s Cheque

Payment of deposit is also possible by a bankers’ draft or cheque.

Personal cheques are not acceptable.

Cheques/Draft should be paid in sterling and made payable to University of Hertfordshire

Make sure the cheque/draft includes the following information about the applicant on the back:

  • Application number: Please refer to correspondence from the University, for direct applicants this should start 10n, UCAS applicants please state your UCAS number
  • Applicant Name: FAMILY NAME (in capitals) and Given name 
  • Applicant Date of Birth: Day-Month-Year 
  • What the payment is for: ie tuition fee deposit OR accommodation deposit

Credit Card or Debit Card

The University can only accept payment by card in person at the University's Place2Pay, in the Student Centre (except for online payments – please see above).

Please note that a charge will be made for in-person transactions paid for by credit card and non-UK debit cards. These charges will be as follows:

  • Below £100 – no charge
  • Between £101 and £500 - £5
  • Between £501 and £1000 - £10
  • Above £1000 - £20

Cash

The University discourages you from carrying large amounts of cash to the UK and therefore we advise that you pay tuition fees by any of the above methods, avoiding cash payment where possible.

Please ensure that you make arrangements to pay your fees at registration (using any of the above payment methods) before arriving at the University. 

Please note that you will not be able to open a UK bank account until after registering at the University.
