The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry
The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry has been representing the needs of businesses in Hertfordshire since 1924. Through their many contacts it represents and lobbies on its members’ behalf and is recognised as a powerful independent voice for the business community.
As one of the 54 British Chambers of Commerce Accredited Chambers within the country, it is able to offer members added benefits enabling them to enhance their businesses and save money.
As the economic climate continues to challenge businesses, Hertfordshire Chamber will continue to heighten its value in sharing knowledge, expertise and opportunities and make the Chamber network an essential part of growing business. Hertfordshire Chamber is proud to be sponsoring the flare for the third year running.

The Heritage Hub
The University of Hertfordshire’s Heritage Hub is a broad, multi-disciplinary umbrella, covering anything that members or external partners choose to call heritage. All staff members (from any of the disciplines: Creative Arts, Business, Humanities, Education, Geography and the Centre for Sustainable Communities) have an interest in fostering historical awareness in community, public policy or commercial settings.
Heritage flourishes at local, national and international levels, where it takes many forms and its contribution to community building, economic prosperity, cultural adaptation and a sense of belonging is widely recognised.
A sense of history and the past can be found in organisations and activities as diverse as: commercial enterprises, voluntary groups directly or indirectly focused on history, tourism, museums and archives, national commemorations, education systems, conflict resolution, and policy making.
Heritage can be evoked by an image or turn of phrase on the one hand, or by a sustained engagement with the ideas, artefacts, institutions and material traces of past human societies. In many ways, to talk of heritage is to put history and the past to use.
What does the Heritage Hub do?
- Provides an organised, unified, outward-facing identity for University of Hertfordshire heritage engagement activities
- Pools the heritage expertise held by staff, exploring exciting synergies between academic disciplines regarding local and regional heritage initiatives
- Works with local communities, social enterprises, tourism, housing associations, archives and library services, conservation charities, district and county councils, education and outreach organisations, local museums, societies and private individuals, heritage trusts, and companies operating in the heritage sector
- Enhances the employability of our students through volunteer placements with heritage organisations
How does the Hub work?
- Helps external groups to identify and write grant applications for heritage projects (e.g. Welwyn Garden City Heritage Trust’s successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund, 2010, for a house history project)
- Engages widely with local communities and the private and public heritage sector to develop grant-funded projects (e.g. successful Knowledge Transfer Project with St Albans Cathedral, 2009)
- Bids for heritage-related contracts that are put out for tender
- Develops innovative multi-disciplinary projects (e.g. ‘Low Carbon Pasts’, 2010)
- Runs practical workshops for members and external parties to support project development and applications for external funding
- Shares resources and equipment between members’ websites
