Momentum
Artists today have access to a great variety of digital technologies to assist in their creative practice. This exhibition will showcase the work of seven UK based artists (Vanessa Cutler, Beate Gegenwart, Antje Illner, Geoffrey Mann, Jenny Smith, Cathy Treadaway and Jayne Wallace) who work with digital technology and cutting edge output technologies.
The choice of tools and materials an artist works with inevitably impacts on the visual characteristics of their work. The lack of hands-on physical manipulation when working digitally can potentially distance the artist, depriving the work of personal signature oremotional charge. How to retain the artists’ voice, communicate a personal language of making, and express narrative or emotion through the created artefact lies at the heart of the making process and has been the challenge for each selected artist in this exhibition.
