Lord Sheikh presents the next in the MBA masterclass series: Achievement of success


Lord Sheikh was born in Kenya and brought up in Uganda. He arrived in the UK in 1961 at the age of 20. 

He is the Chairman and Director of Iqra Ethical plc (Islamic and ethical insurances & financial services) and Macmillan Sheikh plc (Conventional insurances & financial services). In addition he is the Chairman of two successful property companies. Lord Sheikh is the former Chairman and Chief Executive of Camberford Law plc. Under his leadership Camberford Law earned accolades at 13 insurance award ceremonies. These included the most prestigious Commercial Lines Broker of the Year, Broking Initiative of the Year, Professional Intermediary of the Year and Schemes Intermediary of the Year Awards. 

In addition Lord Sheikh was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the British Institute for Cleaning Science. He was also awarded the Sikh Forum International Award for “Community Service”, the award by the Punjabi Society of the British Isles for “Outstanding achievements and distinguished, dedicated and devoted services to the community”, the India International Foundation Award for “Achievements in Business”, and the British Security Industry Association Award for “Promoting the Industry”. 

For 12 years Lord Sheikh was a visiting lecturer at various colleges and polytechnics. In addition to lecturing Lord Sheikh is a keen writer of educational material. He belongs to three Livery companies and is in fact a Freeman of the City of London. Lord Sheikh was elevated to the House of Lords in 2006. He was the first Muslim to be appointed a Peer by the Conservative Party. 

In view of Lord Sheikh’s longstanding connection with the City of London, he took the full title of ‘Baron Sheikh of Cornhill’ when he was appointed to the House of Lords. Lord Sheikh has his own Coat of Arms which was designed by the College of Arms. It signifies the importance of education and conveys the message that Islam is a religion of peace. 

Lord Sheikh founded and funds a registered charity named after his father. The charity undertakes humanitarian work in various parts of the world recognising and rewarding the achievements of exceptional young people who are promising future leaders.
