Henry Purcell - Dido & Aeneas

Henry-Purcell

The Hertfordshire Music Service and BBC Singers are proud to present this joint production of Purcell's dramatic masterpiece Dido & Aeneas, along with the period instrument group the St. James' Baroque Ensemble.

One of the earliest examples of English opera, the story contains elements of love, sorcery and abandonment and includes possibly the most famous of baroque arias, When I am laid in Earth.

A special production for all, the performance will be particularly relevant to GCSE and A-Level Music students and will include a short talk from conductor and early music specialist Robert Hollingworth in the first half.
