Langsamer Satz (1905) Anton von Webern

String Quartet No1 Friedrich Cerha

String Quartet No. 23 in F major, K590 'Prussian No. 3’ Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

This string quartet concert explores Austrian music and its connection to the Austrianplaywright Thomas Bernhard, the inspirationfor the exhibition 'Personal Tempest'. Bernhardwrote libretti for Friedrich Cerha's Requiem fur Hollensteiner, and Cerha's music is represented here by his distinctive 1st string quartet.

Webern’ s beautiful tonal composition Langsamer Satz (1905) begins the concert, inspired by the natural beauty of the mountains near Vienna. The concert concludes with Mozart’s3rd Prussian quartet, which was written shortly before his death at a time of his own Personal Tempest, and his worst bouts of depression.
