Who should attend this course?

This Theory and clinical applications of abdominal and small parts ultrasound course is designed for health care professionals, particularly radiographers who wish to develop the necessary clinical and evaluative skills for the competent performance and reporting of relevant abdominal and small part structure ultrasound examinations.

The course can be taken in combination with other ultrasound related courses and is part of the MSc Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences Ultrasound Programme.

It may only be studied as a standalone course by qualified sonographers.

Course content

This Theory and clinical applications of abdominal and small parts ultrasound course is designed to give practitioners the theory underpinning ultrasound imaging of the abdominal and small part structures as well as achieving clinical competency when studied as part of a taught post graduate programme.

On successful completion of the Theory and clinical applications of abdominal and small parts ultrasound course, typically students will be able to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and critical understanding of the anatomy, physiology and pathology associated with the relevant abdominal and small part structures.

Furthermore, student will have a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable for medical ultrasound investigation for the abdominal and small part structures.

In addition to demonstrating critical awareness in synthesizing information and evaluative skills for the competent performance of ultrasound examinations of the abdominal and small part structures

This Theory and clinical applications of abdominal and small parts ultrasound course also enables student to demonstrate technical expertise in medical ultrasound of the abdominal and small part structures being able to perform examinations competently with precision and effectiveness and be able to adapt these skills as required in complex situations.

Assessment

The assessment will consist of 2 case study presentations, an unseen 2 hour OSCE and a summative clinical assessment comprising of 4 patients.

The summative clinical assessment is undertaken in your own department and marked by university staff and your clinical supervisors.
