The course is for dietitians, nutritionists, public health workers and researchers who want to learn more about the Mediterranean diet and how it can be used to manage selected chronic disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cancers and neurodegenerative disorders.

Course content

This Mediteranean diet course discusses how to implement a Mediterranean diet programme for the management or prevention of various chronic disorders.

It will also provide an update on recent advances in our scientific understanding of the Mediterranean diet and epidemiological evidence for its health benefits.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • the key constituents of a Mediterranean diet
  • how to design appropriate meal plans based on the principles of a Mediterranean dietary pattern
  • methods for assessing adherence to a Mediterranean diet
  • the experimental and epidemiological evidence for the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet
  • the underlying scientific basis by which a Mediterranean diet helps prevent and manage selected chronic disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cancers and neurodegenerative disorders

The course will include group sessions that will help you focus on your own particular areas of interest.
