Magnesium lowers blood pressure

Researchers from the University of Hertfordshire have found that magnesium supplements may offer small but clinically significant reductions in blood pressure. In a paper published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the researchers also discovered that the size of the effect increased in line with increased dosage.

BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy graduate Nick Stubbings has won the Society of Sports Therapists Student Travelling Scholarship 2010 and travelled to Canada where he did an internship at the University of Windsor’s Green Shield Clinic. Nick spent twenty eight days practicing his skills and gaining experience in providing rehabilitation sessions for athletes under the supervision of athletic therapists from the University of Windsor.

Sports Therapy Graduate Worked With Top Rugby Players

Jodie Webb graduated from the University of Hertfordshire this week after securing a first class honours degree in Sports Therapy. During her course Jodie completed a year work placement in New Zealand working with The Tasman Makos and The Crusaders – some of the top Rugby Union teams in the southern hemisphere – she also worked with a professional basketball team.

The Forum's Got Talent - The T Factor

Research carried out by chief judge Dr Peter Lovatt, at the audition stage of The Forum’s Got Talent found that there is a direct link between testosterone levels and success in reaching the final. Of all the acts measured the ten finalists were found to have higher levels of pre-natal testosterone than those that didn’t reach the final.
New CPD Biosecience training courses for London Metropolitan University Science Centre

Lecturers for the School of Life Sciences Science Training Centre regularly deliver training and updating CPD courses for large companies such as GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca and Government institutions including the Veterinary Sciences Laboratory and the Laboratory of the Government Chemist. However CPD courses have recently been provided for London Metropolitan University in their new Science Centre.
FIT Science

Launch of the MSc in Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation

The recently validated MSc in Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation was successfully launched at the Hertfordshire Sports Village on the 30th April. Dr Colin Crosby, visiting fellow of the University, presented on recent developments in sport and exercise medicine in contemporary healthcare and John Allen, lead physiotherapist for England Athletics, presented on the role of screening for performance enhancement and injury prevention. Both presentations were chaired by Dr Judith Naseby, Head of Sport, Health and Exercise.
