UH Law Prep
UH Law Prep is open to all and is a short course aimed at giving potential students the opportunity to develop the specific skills required to study law at undergraduate level at the University of Hertfordshire. It provides an experience of the demands of studying law for people who are considering engaging in the subject at degree level or people who have a general interest in the subject area.
Students who successfully complete the UH Law Prep course will be offered either a full time or part time place on the LLB (Honours) Law Degree.

Course Content
This short course will provide an introduction to the substantive subjects studied in a UK Law Degree. It will cover:
- Constitutional issues surrounding the role of legislation within the English Legal System.
- The impact of the Human Rights Act within England and Wales.
- The impact of European Community Law in domestic legislation.
- Foundational principles in the area of criminal law, including theft.
- The legal rules surrounding the formation of a contract.
- Research and ICT skills necessary for the completion of this course and future academic legal studies.
Course Duration
The course will run over five consecutive weekends. Classes will commence at 11am and finish by 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. Students will study at the St Albans Campus. This is found in the centre of the city and is within walking distance of the mainline station into London.
Assessment
Students will be expected to undertake independent study alongside their classroom contact time and will be assessed in the following ways:
1. An oral presentation on the final Saturday of the course.
2. An independent piece of coursework handed out on the second weekend and to be completed by the final weekend.
3. A two hour closed book examination on the final day of the course covering the substantive issues raised during the period of study.
All elements of assessment must be successfully completed in order to achieve the award and progress on the full or part-time LLB (Hons) Programme.
Tuition fee
The fee for the course is £400. This is payable in full on registration.
