Research

Alongside excellent teaching, the School of Law supports legal research as it is an important component of academic work, underpinning and informing teaching and contributing to the knowledge base of students, practitioners and academics.

Our staff have published articles in a wide range of legal journals, and several members of staff have written and edited student and practitioner textbooks. We have a strong research record in commercial and international law via our Centre for International Law which supports research in these and other developing areas of the law and publishes its own legal journal ‘The Hertfordshire Law Journal’ four times a year as well as articles and leading textbooks. Students are encouraged to develop research interests and contribute articles to our journal. We also hold an annual student essay competition and the winning articles are published in the journal. The most recent winner was third year law student Sulina Bangaroo who wrote about the exile of natives of the British Indian Ocean Territory.

The Head of the School of Law, Dr Charles Wild, and two other members of academic staff, have recently published a new student textbook on Internet Law, which is one of the fastest growing areas for legal study and practice, and a very popular option with our students.
