Postgraduate Subjects
The School of Humanities offers unique programmes of taught MA degrees and other postgraduate qualifications in History, Literature and Philosophy. The School's commitment to research and teaching provides a supportive learning environment in which you can engage in specialised inquiry and develop advanced knowledge and skills in your chosen subject area. Staff are sensitive to the needs of full-time and part-time graduate students and are committed to student-centred learning and teaching that allows for choice and individual specialisation within a structured programme of study.

Taught postgraduate provision in the Humanities is divided into subject areas, sharing a common structure and body of regulations. That common structure will be described on this page (as a condensed version of the student handbook). Full details of the subjects, including descriptions of the postgraduate modules in the subject, are available at the following links:
Study Routes
- Full-time 1 to 3 evenings per week for one year (normally three courses in the first semester; one course in the second semester plus a dissertation in the third semester).
- Part-time 1 to 2 evenings per week for two years (normally 2 evenings a week in semester A and 1 evening per week in semester B).
Funding
Funding for postgraduate work is highly competitive. The official funding body, the Arts and Humanities Research Board offers some awards for those with good honours degrees.
Fees.
If you are studying full-time the cost of the MA course is £3,950 for UK and EU students and £9500 for overseas students.
If you are studying part-time the cost of each 15-credit module is £330. The MA is made up of 3 x 30-credit modules and 2 x 15-credit modules, plus the dissertation which is a 60-credit module.
