The interview day

Your interview day is an important part of our application process.
We offer a programme of events before and after your interview including talks and tours of the campus.
Wednesday afternoon is when interviews are normally held.*
What happens on the day?
We may ask you to complete a written questionnaire. This gives us additional information on your reasons for choosing the course.
There will also be time for you to look around our facilities. We do however strongly encourage you to visit us during a School Open Day before selecting your course.
There will be students' work for you to see and possibly students to talk to – however, there may be times when the students are working off-site so we cannot guarantee this.
*Please note: students are available on site all days apart from Wednesday afternoon.
Portfolio review
You should bring a portfolio of your work to the interview.
The portfolio will be reviewed in your absence before the interview begins.
Prepare your portfolio to ensure that it presents your work in its best light, that it is clear and communicates your abilities and experiences well.
When we have completed our initial review or your work we will call you in and start the main interview.
Informal interview
A good interview matters… try to show and communicate your overall commitment and enthusiasm for your chosen subject area.
What you say and how you say it can make a real difference.
A positive interview can really influence the decision of the interviewer.
The interview will last approximately one hour. During this time, a number of academic staff will talk to you about your work, ideas and experiences.
This is your opportunity to explain your way of working and highlight the strengths in your portfolio.
We will ask you to talk about:
- a selection of work from your portfolio
- exhibitions you may have visited
- artists/designers you admire
We will record our discussion with you during the interview.
Please note: there is insufficient time for you to talk about all the work in your portfolio so it’s important to have a well planned, organised and selective portfolio.
No need to be nervous
Don’t be worried about the prospect of attending an interview. We will do our best to put you at ease and you will find the interview is informal and friendly.
We do not want you to be intimidated by your interview and we will try our best to put you at your ease.
We genuinely want to know about you and your work.
There will be no questions with 'right' or 'wrong' answers.
What happens after the interview?
At the end of the day, staff will meet to discuss:
- the portfolio review
- the interview itself
- your UCAS application
From this information a decision will be made.
