Range of Degree Titles

Choice

There are three main points at which you need to make a choice

1. Choice of Theme: mid-way through the first year

Computer Science: a technology and software development focus

Information Technology: a business and solutions focus

2. Whether to undertake the optional placement: during the second year

3. Choice of Specialism: at the start of the final year

custom: there is a full choice of modules, keeping your career options open

specialist: a specialism is added to the broad base, especially in the final year

When applying through UCAS, you need to specify a particular degree title, but you can make your final decision at the stages shown above.

Based on our existing, long-established courses and completely revised from 2007 to respond to changing circumstances in the discipline and the IT industry, the programme features:

  • a full range of contemporary courses
  • a choice of Computer Science or Information Technology
  • the opportunity to add a specialism to the broad base, especially in the final year
  • an optional paid placement year
  • a mix of academic, professional and practical work that prepares you for a career in the IT industry and for life-long learning

About Us

The University of Hertfordshire is located on two campuses in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, one of the UK centres for high-tech business. It is just 30 km from the centre of London with easy access by car, bus or rail.

The School of Computer Science is long established and highly regarded with a track record of graduate success, a large dedicated staff able to offer many different specialisms, and an RAE research rating of 4 (nationally excellent).

Facilities

There are outstanding sports and study facilities, including the virtual learning environment, StudyNet and large Learning Resource Centres open 24x7 in term time. We have modern computer labs with a wide range of up-to-date professional software. The Hertfordshire Sports Village offers some of the best university facilities in the country.

Minimum 200 points. Plus GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. Or equivalent.

IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 (213 CBT) if your first language is not English.
