e-mktg Edge 2011

Harnessing the Power of PR in a Social Media World

e-mktgEDGE 2011 Wednesday 27th April

This year’s e-mktg EDGE event offered attendees the chance to learn more about how to develop effective PR in a social media world, network with business owners and academic staff and experience business & marketing students’ online marketing strategy exhibitions (see more info below).

Dean Russell

The Key Note speaker of the event was Dean Russell, Director at Fleishman-Hillard who looked at the important role public relations plays in the ever-changing social media world. Dean also looked at how the lines between marketing, advertising and PR are becoming increasingly blurred and explained how the concept of the 'social business' will play a key part in the success of organisations, large and small, in the future.

Dean has worked in the digital industry for over 10 years, working across most sectors on campaigns and strategic deliveries for many household name clients. Dean is a columnist and feature writer for the Charity magazine Third Sector and entertainment magazine Cue Entertainment and is a judge for the British Video Association awards. Locally, Dean is also a St Albans District Councillor and School Governor.

e-mktgEDGE Student-Business Projects

During the last few months, students on the eMarketing module have been working closely with SMEs to develop realistic and implementable online marketing strategies to enhance the businesses’ presence in the virtual space. The business-student partnerships are generated by the students as they themselves have identified the business clients and pitched their ideas for the online marketing strategy. As part of the ‘real world’ experience students have undertaken work placements with their clients to present their online marketing strategies and get invaluable insights into the business operations. At e-mktgEDGE students will be exhibiting their final projects and will be able to give recommendations on how to optimise businesses’ interaction and engagement with online media.

Students have been working with businesses in several different industries including;
