Who should attend this course?

This Return to contemporary practice - midwifery course is suitable for midwives whose registration has lapsed wishing to return to midwifery practice.

It is mandatory to arrange and confirm a suitable practice placement before you start the course.

Course content

The course has been validated by the NMC to prepare the individual for return to the present day work environment with the contemporary skills, knowledge, competencies and confidence that is required.

The course combines study days and clinical practice.

The study days include practical skills sessions, lectures and workshops.

The course team are committed to students finding employment following the course and as such an interview preparation workshop is also offered.

The number of hours that each returner will be required to do will vary depending on their previous experience and the length of time that they have been out of practice.

The course tutor will be able to advise you on the exact number of hours that you need to achieve and offer guidance on finding a suitable placement.

How does this module map the NHS KSF?

The course contributes to the development of knowledge and understanding for the KSF Core Dimensions. These are embedded within the theory lectures and practice experience.

Assessment

Practice Assessment: Successful completion of the required hours in practice, as well as competence in clinical skills, which are verified by your Sign-off Mentor.

Theoretical Assessment: One reflective essay on an aspect of care that has changed since you were last in practice.

(A formative essay and OSCE mid-course to support you is optional)
