Principles of functional rehabilitation
Who should attend this course?
This Principles of functional rehabilitation course has been developed to provide Healthcare, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation Professionals with the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge and skills in the field of rehabilitation with the focus on function, clinical reasoning and behaviour change.
This will enable professionals to design, implement and evaluate functional rehabilitation programmes suitable for a wide range of patient and client groups.
Rehabilitation, promoting health and facilitating behaviour change are fundamental in contemporary healthcare professional practice.
It is recognised that advanced skills in these areas are required to meet the diverse and challenging range of needs in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare.
The course may be taken as a stand-alone course or as part of a post graduate award.
You should be a qualified health or exercise professional e.g. physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor, sport and exercise physiologist, sports therapist and rehabilitator.
If you wish to undertake this course as part of a postgraduate award, a degree or equivalent is required.
Course content
The Principles of functional rehabilitation course includes a review and exploration of the evidence base and practical issues surrounding exercise prescription, physical activity, applied biomechanics, motor learning, exercise psychology and clinical reasoning as they apply to functional rehabilitation programmes within contemporary healthcare, sports and workplace settings.
You will be encouraged to draw on current and past experiences of rehabilitation and evaluative processes, and actively engage in critical appraisal of relevant published material in your specialist field in addition to more generic literature. You will actively participate in workshops, tutorials and seminars.
The aims of this course are to develop a thorough understanding of the principles underpinning functional rehabilitation and the application of these principles when designing and implementing programmes for specific clients and patient groups.
