Course content

This Preoperative assessment course offers a critical analysis of the literature and evidence based guidelines to enable the students to evaluate the strategies used within their clinical practice in the preoperative clinics and day surgery units and make the appropriate changes to improve practice.

The preoperative assessment course will include:

  • Physical assessment
  • Cardiovascular assessment /ECG
  • Use of NICE guidelines
  • Respiratory assessment/Arterial blood gas analysis
  • What spirometry measures and how to use a Spirometer
  • Abdominal assessment
  • An introduction to the interpretation of the results of investigations
