Pain Management
Who should attend this course?
The Pain management course is suitable for all health professionals currently working in an area of practice where patients require management of any type of pain.
Course content
The course aim is to enable you, wherever you are working, to advance your knowledge and skills in the management of pain.
You will develop skills in assessing, managing and supporting a person experiencing pain and an understanding of what the pain experience means to that person and their family. They should be able to evaluate the care given.
Pain may be classified as either acute, chronic, neuropathic or malignant pain and you may specialise in any area that is relevant to your practice, including paediatrics.
The pain management course will examine the physical, psychological and social factors that affect pain, the most common interventions that can ameliorate pain including complementary and alternative approaches that are currently advocated as best practice.

Assessment
Assessment for this course includes:
- short optional online questionnaires so you can assess your own progress
- formative case studies which are recorded in note form and can form the basis of the final summative case study presentation
In addition, application of theory to practice is assessed by your mentor using a competency checklist
