Non medical prescribing for pharmacists
Who should attend this course?
The Non-medical prescribing for pharmacist course is for all practising pharmacists registered with the GPhC who have a minimum of two years’ patient- orientated experience following your pre-registration year.
Evidence of up-to-date clinical, pharmacological and pharmaceutical knowledge and continuing professional development is required together with a Doctor willing to support and assess you in supervised practice.
Current CRB clearance is also necessary.
Course content
The Non-medical prescribing for pharmacist course provides opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills in prescribing practice through independent reasoned thought, systematic enquiry, reflection and evaluation.
The course covers the following topics Include:
- Systematic approaches to assessment and diagnosis
- Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
- Factors that influence prescribing practice and patients' use of medication
- Evidence based sources of information
- Legal, professional and ethical issues associated with the role

You are required to have at least two years full-time or equivalent experience in the field of intended prescribing practice and should have a qualified mentor who is a community nurse prescriber to support and assess you in supervised practice. Current CRB clearance is also necessary
