Who should attend this course?
The Musculoskeletal injection therapy course is for experienced UK based practitioners only, who wish to include injection therapy as part of their management of patients with musculoskeletal dysfunction involving the peripheral joints.
The Musculoskeletal injection therapy course will include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical sessions in order for students to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to perform injection therapy safely and competently.
It may be taken as a stand alone module or as part of a post graduate award e.g. Post Graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree.
Course content
Topics will include review of anatomy and relevant musculoskeletal pathologies that may be suitable for injection therapy, pharmacological, ethical and medico-legal considerations, clinical reasoning, and advanced musculoskeletal assessment procedures including palpation of soft tissues.
The Musculoskeletal injection therapy course includes the practical application of injection therapy including indications, contra-indications, precautions, possible side-effects and identification and management of adverse events will be discussed.
The documentation of injection therapy procedures including evaluation of outcome will be highlighted.
The development/enhancement of communication skills with the patient/client and the wider health professional team will be emphasised.
In addition, students on the Musculoskeletal injection therapy course will be expected to undertake a log of their learning in the practice environment and reflect on their own performance.

Assessment
The assessment consists of a 2000 word written assignment, an OSCE style examination and completion of a practice placement portfolio which will include a minimum of ten successfully completed supervised injections.
