Musculoskeletal assessment and management
Who should attend this course?
The Musculoskeletal assessment and management course is intended for UK and international health care clinicians including osteopaths, sports therapists, sports rehabilitators and other health sport and exercise professionals with a BSc or equivalent, who wish to develop their existing knowledge and understanding of the principles, concepts and practices that underpin contemporary issues in musculoskeletal practice.
The focus will be on principles of treatment, clinical reasoning and behaviour change.
The Musculoskeletal assessment and management course will enable professionals to plan appropriate assessment and management strategies for patients with musculoskeletal dysfunction in selected regions, taking into account the evolving evidence-base and current professional issues.
It is recognised that advanced skills in these areas are required to meet the diverse and challenging range of needs in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare.
The Musculoskeletal assessment and management course may be taken as a standalone course or as part of a post graduate award.
If you wish to undertake this course as part of a postgraduate award a degree, or equivalent, is required.
Course Content
The Musculoskeletal assessment and management course consists of both traditional and blended learning including lectures; group and peer led tutorials and directed learning tasks.
Students will be expected to participate in discussions regarding the theoretical considerations and practical issues surrounding the assessment and management of patients with neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction in selected regions.
Students will be encouraged to explore, discuss and share their past experiences of clinical practice and educational processes (e.g. relevant post graduate training/courses).
The content of the Musculoskeletal assessment and management course will include the management of patients with acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction resulting from disease, trauma and surgery.
Of special interest will be clinical practice, emphasising clinical examination, evaluation, interpretation, differential diagnosis and therefore classification and treatment.
